Citigroup ranked ninth globally in AI preparedness despite massive technology spending, facing decades of infrastructure underinvestment and ongoing regulatory obligations from 2020 consent orders. Deployed three core AI tools to 140,000 employees across eight countries: Citi Assist for internal policy navigation, Citi Stylus for document intelligence and multi-document processing, and Agent Assist for customer service optimization in credit cards. The rollout was underpinned by a strategic Google Cloud partnership providing access to Vertex AI and high-performance computing for daily market computations.

The deployment represents one of the largest enterprise AI rollouts in banking, covering 140,000 employees across eight countries. Agent Assist is reducing customer service costs in the credit card division while improving response times, though comprehensive ROI metrics have not been publicly disclosed.
